Crown House, New Malden
One project we are particularly proud of is Crown House New Malden. A 5 storey reinforced concrete framed structure built in the 1960’s as an office block had been derelict for over ten years. On behalf of our client Axa Sun Life we converted the building to residential flats which were then leased to a housing association.
The £8.0m conversion featured an additional storey constructed with lightweight material. This was a challenging project which involved some ingenuity but we were particularly pleased with the minimal environmental impact this refurbishment had. Limited demolition meant very few new materials such as concrete, steel or brickwork were used, therefore the carbon footprint of this building was minimised whilst providing low cost housing for the local community.

Residential Grade II Town House, Kensington Gate, London
This major residential structural engineering project involved the refurbishment of this substantial Grade II listed, five storey town house in Central London. Our brief was to undertake all structural work which comprised of major repairs to the existing structure as well as new development work to facilitate a structural glass rear extension.
The project included extending the basement into vaulted areas under the rear courtyard pavement and removing substantial load-bearing elements in the basement and replacing them with new, less intrusive, beams and a concrete base. Additional requirements included the adjustments to floors, the removal of floor joists and the alteration of internal openings to existing and new spaces.

Commercial & Residential Brown Field Development, St Mary's Butts, Reading
Situated in the heart of Reading's ever-expanding town centre, this distinctive commercial and residential development required structural engineering planning and design to deliver an innovative construction which is both visually striking and yet sympatheitc with its mixed surroundings. Specific structural features include the design of integral load-bearing masonry and the installation of a curved proprietry steel truss roof with substantial eves overhanging to create a distinctive building profile.
The project also required the definition and management of the extensive party walls in this well-developed area of the town centre.
