The construction of almost all types of permanent works will require the use of some form of temporary works. Temporary works are the parts of a construction project that are needed to enable the permanent works to be built. Usually the Temporary Works are removed after use - eg access scaffolds, props, shoring, excavation support, falsework and formwork.
BS5975 provides an industry consensus view on what is considered to be good practice; on projects with relatively simple Temporary Works needs, you may choose not to appoint a Temporary Works Designer or a Temporary Works Coordinator however, it is your legal responsibility to make sure that Temporary Works are properly managed to ensure safety.
